Tuesdays With Kerin: Last Quarter of 2024

Hey there! Welcome back to another Tuesday update. I want to take a moment to apologize for missing last week's post, but I'm back now and ready to get back on my regular schedule. Thanks for your understanding, and let’s dive into what’s been happening!

Oh my gosh, can you believe it? I'm less than 4 weeks out from my half-marathon! Training has been tough but oh-so-rewarding. During week 8, I tackled an 8-mile long run that was probably the hardest run of my life. I won't lie, I cried and seriously considered stopping, but I took a breather, collected myself, and pushed through. I think the heat got to me—starting later than I’d planned meant I was running in sweltering conditions by mile 6. Running for over 2 hours definitely challenged me! However, week 9 was a completely different story. I started my run earlier and crushed it by nailing a new personal record on my 10K, finishing over four minutes faster than my previous time! Progress feels amazing!

Week 10 was truly the real test for me, as I set out to tackle my 10-mile run. Thankfully, I found myself in a much better headspace than during my previous 8-miler. I woke up early and enjoyed a leisurely morning, ensuring I felt good and ready to take on the challenge. I made a point to head out early enough to avoid the heat creeping in towards the end of my run, expecting to be on the road for about three hours. To my surprise, the run felt great overall! There were definitely some tough moments, but for the most part, I had a blast listening to my music and soaking in the experience. And after two and a half hours, I triumphantly conquered those 10 miles! Now, I’m looking ahead to the final test this weekend, when I’ll be tackling a 12-mile run.

Although half-marathon training tends to consume most of my time, my sister and I managed to carve out some quality time together with another sister date. In my previous update, I mentioned our lovely outing at Pappas Bros Steakhouse, but this time my sister took me to BJ's Brewhouse. Let's just say it was a much different experience! My sister had promised to take me there over a decade ago, insisting I would love their pizookie. So, after all this time, I finally went! Was it worth the wait? Eh, the food was just okay, but the company made all the difference. She was spot on about the pizookie though—it was absolutely delish! While I may not be rushing back anytime soon, I would definitely indulge in another pizookie again when the craving hits! The next week, we spent even more time together, thanks to my sister who decided to grill up some delicious steak for the family. It was a real treat to gather around the table and enjoy her culinary creation. She's really learning to chef it up!

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve finally sorted out my room – it’s all organized and redecorated, creating such a peaceful atmosphere! To maintain this newfound serenity, I've been making a conscious effort to keep my space tidy by adding a 10-minute clean to my nighttime routine. In fact, I've revamped that routine entirely, honing in on its effectiveness and consistency. Crafting a solid nighttime routine is just part of my process as I use this last quarter to set myself up for success in the new year. I have a clear vision of the goals and the life I want to embrace in 2025, so I’m starting to implement some changes now to pave the way for that success. Currently, I’m focusing on refining my nighttime and morning routines, enhancing my nutrition, and prioritizing self-care because I’m all about making this last quarter count!

Until next time!

Au Revoir,

Weekly Obsession: Well, surprise surprise, no new obsessions on my end! Honestly, running has taken the spotlight in my life right now. From early morning jogs to evening sprints, it feels like my sneakers have become my best friends.

What I'm Reading: Okay, I must confess, I have not listened to a single minute of an audiobook or turned a single page lately! I know, I know – I really need to get my act together. My bookshelf and audible library is practically begging for attention with all those half-finished books and series staring at me. It’s like they’re saying, “Come on, just a few pages!” Maybe I should set a goal to dive back into one of them this week. Here's to hoping I can rekindle that reading spark soon!

What I'm Watching: So, I just wrapped up binge-watching 'Nobody Wants This' on Netflix, and let me tell you, I absolutely loved it! Kristen Bell and Adam Brody in a rom-com? Why has this dynamic duo never been paired in a rom-com before? The chemistry was electric, and the laughs were non-stop! I was all in for the witty banter and heartwarming moments. It’s definitely a must-watch if you’re looking for something light and fun. Now I'm on the hunt for my next binge-worthy show – any recommendations?
