Tuesdays with Kerin: Half Marathon Hopes and Weekend Escapades

I know I missed last week's post, but I'm back now and ready to share two weeks' worth of updates. I've been thinking about switching my Tuesday updates to a biweekly schedule since I don't always have a lot happening each week. I want to keep my posts interesting for you all, and I realize you might get tired of hearing that I've just been running and going to work, but honestly, that's pretty much my routine every week!

Speaking of running, I wrapped up my post-injury recovery plan the week before last, and I’m happy to report that my knee is feeling good! Last week, I officially kicked off my half-marathon training—yup, you read that right! I’m running a half-marathon despite having only started running less than a year ago; I know, crazy, right?

My first week of training went smoothly, and I’ve switched up my approach a bit. Since my PCOS diagnosis, I’ve been focusing on prioritizing my recovery and incorporating easy movement into my daily routine. I feel so much better when I get some form of exercise in, but instead of pushing myself to run every day, I’ve added walking, yoga, and mobility work to the mix. This way, I still reap the benefits of daily movement without the risk of overtraining. Honestly, I’ve been loving this new training style, and I’ll share more about the changes I’ve made since my PCOS diagnosis in a dedicated post soon!

I wrapped up July with two very different movie experiences. First up, I finally got around to watching Twisters. I wasn’t able to catch it in 4DX this time, but I’m definitely planning to see it again when it returns later this month. I didn’t have high expectations going in, but I ended up really enjoying it—it's absolutely a film that deserves the big-screen treatment!

Soon after, I watched Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, I should preface this by saying I’ve never been a fan of Deadpool movies, nor am I particularly fond of Ryan Reynolds. My expectations were low, and they were met. However, I must give credit where it’s due: Hugh Jackman is, as always, amazing as Wolverine. For a Deadpool movie, this one was probably the best, and I have to admit, Hugh Jackman made the whole experience a lot more digestible!

Last week marked the start of the Olympics, and I’ve been spending most of my evenings glued to the screen, soaking it all in. There's just something about the summer Olympics that captivates me! I find myself tuning into a wide array of sports that I wouldn't usually pay much attention to—Judo, Beach Volleyball, and even Skeet Shooting have all made their way into my viewing schedule. It’s a refreshing change of pace, allowing me to immerse myself in the thrill of competition. The only exception to my Olympic binge-watching? Basketball. Perhaps that’s because I already watch it all the time; it just doesn’t hold the same excitement during the games!

This past weekend was a delightful mix of chill vibes and fun activities. With Houston Restaurant Weeks in full swing, my mother and I decided to try a new spot, Field and Tides. I’ll admit, I didn’t have high hopes looking at the menu, but it turned out to be incredibly delicious—what a pleasant surprise! I had a great experience and am already excited to try something new this coming weekend. Keeping our Spooky Saturday tradition, my brother and I saw Trap. I mostly enjoyed it, and you can catch my full review on Kerin's Kritiques.

Sunday was fun, as my sister orchestrated a girls' day for my mother, her, and me. We ventured to the new Great Wolf Lodge in Webster, indulging in a tasty late lunch before hitting the water park. The water park was a blast; we zoomed down all the slides, and let’s just say, I felt like I almost drowned in one, but it was all in good fun. We wrapped up the day by chilling in our suite for the rest of the night, making it a weekend to remember!

Until next time!

Weekly Obsession: The Summer Olympics! Seriously, this is how I'm spending most of my time now. I'll watch anything during the Olympics! Come on, skeet shooting!

What I'm Reading: Believe it or not, I've dived into a new book. And yes, I didn't just start it – I'm actually making progress. I'm reading "It Ends with Us" by Colleen Hoover. I know it's wildly popular, and yes, I'm reading it because the movie comes out this week. I'm already halfway through and plan to finish it before seeing the movie on Friday. If you're into romance novels, you'll probably enjoy it. Normally, I'm all about young adult fantasy romance, but this one is surprisingly captivating.

What I'm Watching: So, I started watching "Those About to Die" on Peacock. I'm one and a half episodes in, and I have to admit, it seems pretty bad. But, knowing me, I'll probably finish it because I'm weirdly committed to finishing shows I don't even like.
